Spinal Tap Stonehenge scene
as buffer.
So about that wall design Trump tweeted out tonight:
Is it just me, or do those gaps seem a bit large? Like large enough to walk through pretty easily... I mean the rear door of a 4th gen Explorer is like 4 feet, so if we’re being generous, the “slats” have a 16" gap minimum. That’s pretty near the width of an economy seat on most airplanes. I’m not a small guy and I’m pretty sure I’d fit through without having to try to hard.
And for a chaser, here’s the Shutdown Specials - $5 with your government ID at the Capitol Lounge:

I didn’t see the tweet, but that looks like something a middle school ripped up in an hour with a free copy of Sketchup. I’m sure if the wall happe ns, they’ll be closer together. Your estimates sound right, though.
I still doubt a full wall will be build. Then again, I also doubted we'd see meaningful prison reform or hemp legalization, but here we are. The 3D chess might actually be working.

Here’s an existing barrier in Brownsville that’s pretty similar :
We’ve got these “ picket fence” type things in various locations along the border, and they seem to work ok. If you make the whole border like this, I imagine people will find a way to bypass them. Of course, as I understand it, most people who come to the country illegally are coming on visa and then not leaving, so the wall is, and always has been a distraction. If you really want to control illegal immigration, you have to crack down on business that hire people who aren’t allowed to work.

Sadly it is a real tweet. I should hope they’d be closer together because there’d be even less of a point to it than there already is... Ground microphones and drones would be way cheaper and more effective.
Maybe it’s 3D chess, but I seriously doubt it given that drawing.

Yeah apparently most people fly in illegally and then just overstay. It makes sense in populated areas where it would be easy to just jump across, but when you’re 50 miles from nowhere you have time to roll up if you have sensors on the border
. Just a huge waste of resources.

Also just for fun:
From 99% Invisible: https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/border-wall/ (which unfortunately doesn’t talk much about the design of different wall/fence types).

I wonder which well-connected contractor the bestest president ever will give the job, definitely no chance of money laundering involved, either.

We do all know that actual cost of the wall will be much much higher -and this 5 billion is just like a made up number, right?

Not to worry, the bill may be $5B, but DJT will only pay $1B, and only after he gets sued.

See this is what happens someone half asses something . Happened with the Chinese and their Great Wall, ha ppened with the French and the Maginot Line, happened with the Germans and the Atlantic Wall, happened with the Koreans and the DMZ and it’s happening again with ‘Murica.
If you want an impenetrable wall, you need nothing short of a wall of continuous nuclear fire that goes all the way down to the Earth’s mantle , but whenever you try suggesting this to a wall supporter, all of sudden, they call you stupid or insane.
Damn asshats aren’t even willing to accept a little radiation poisoning to accomplish their stated plans .

It’s worth pointing out that Australia has a quite substantial moat around it. It is generally effective as an impervious border. But not totally .
However , because we have international airports , we have an ongoing procession of overstaying guests.
To those Americans who fancy such a tall picket fence ...even if you got the fence...you have airports and cheap airfares...where there's a will, there's a way.
